Scar tissue can restrict movement in adjacent joints, eventually creating injury to the joint itself. This type of restrictive tissue can become stronger and as non-elastic as connective tissue like tendons and cartilage. After an injury, collagen fibers are laid down in a sporadic and unorganized pattern in order to prevent the recurrence of injury. If you have ever patched a hole in a pair of jeans with the zig-zag stitch on your sewing machine, you know how this works.
Do I think that becoming a better problem-solver will, all by itself, solve all of those problems? Of course not. But if you’ve tried other strategies that haven’t worked as well as you’d like, it just might be the missing piece.
Client question: Will I disrobe? For some clients, disrobing or not disrobing is very important. Either is appropriate, of course, and you just want to let folks know that this isn’t a typical massage experience with disrobing and getting on the table with sheets, blankets, lotions, etc. With comfortably laying on a massage table, you let the client know this doesn’t require movement or participation on their part and that we can bolster and adjust them as their needs dictate.
neck pain causes tender trigger points and trigger points can be treated with manual therapy techniques. Unbeknown to many, a good chiropractor can offer much more than just a spinal adjustment. Sometimes a chiropractic adjustment is not the therapy you need. Solving chronic pain is almost always a matter of good clinical detective work. With all of the ‘crumbs’ in place, the doctor and patient can follow the clues to locate the cause of the pain in your back. It makes the remedy much easier.
Perform a lot of compound exercises that recruit the core. Some examples would be lunges with a triceps overhead extension, chin ups + knee raises, push ups + planks and squats + shoulder press.
If you weren’t already aware, chiropractic care relies on the use of manual therapy. With this type of therapy, surgical tools and instruments are not used. In fact, many practicing chiropractors rarely suggest surgery, unless in extreme cases they cannot treat. Manual therapy involves hand-on treatment. The hands are literally used to massage and thrust joints and bones back into place.
STAGE 1: ACUTE MANAGEMENT (0- 2 DAYS) Damage Control. Rest: Try not to take too much weight through the knee initially. Crutches are commonly required. Try to keep the knee bending as much as possible. Ice: Early & Often over first 48 hours; 15-20 minutes every 2-4 hours. Try to keep the knee bent. Compression: Bandage to control swelling for 48 hours. This may occur in such a way as to encourage bending of the knee. Elevation: Attempt to keep the leg in an elevated position to encourage the reduction of swelling. Seek treatment. No Massage, No Stretching. No Alcohol, No Heat.
You will get used to this exercise after a while. If you would like to take this a stage further, use metal garden canes from your local garden centre, these have little nodules on them to give you deeper massage.
